III. General information on data processing

1. Scope of the processing of personal data

RWTH Aachen University processes the personal data of users of the website only to an extend taht this is necessary to provide a functional website, content and services. The processing of users' personal data takes place regularly only with the consent of the user. An exception applies in cases where prior consent cannot be obtained for factual reasons, and the processing of the data is permitted by law

2. Legal basis for the processing of personal data

Insofar as RWTH Aachen University obtains the consent of the data subject for the processing of personal data, Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) serves as the legal basis.

When processing personal data that is necessary to fulfil a contract to which the data subject is a party, Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR serves as the legal basis. This also applies to processing operations that are necessary to carry out pre-contractual measures.

Insofar as the processing of personal data is necessary for the fulfillment of our tasks that are in the public interest or serve the exercise of official authority, Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e GDPR serves as the legal basis.

3. Data deletion and storage period

The personal data of the data subject will be deleted or blocked as soon as the purpose of storage no longer applies. Data may also be stored if this has been determined by the European or national legislator in EU regulations, laws or other provisions to which the controller is subject. The data will also be blocked or deleted once a storage period prescribed by the aforementioned standards expires, unless there is a need for further storage of the data for the conclusion or fulfillment of a contract.

IV. Provision of the website and creation of log files

1. Collection and processing of personal data

You can use our online services without disclosing your identity. By sending the information (which you disclose in the contact fields) to us, you agree that it may be used for our own business purposes (sending the requested materials/information, processing for advertising and market research purposes), provided you have not objected to this possibility. Once you have given your consent, you can revoke it at any time with effect for the future.

The following data is processed each time the content of this website is accessed, while the individual user remains anonymous:

  2. Date and time of access
  3. Amount of data transferred
  4. IP address

Data is not passed on to third parties for commercial or non-commercial purposes.

2. Legal basis for data processing

The legal basis for the temporary storage of data and log files is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e GDPR.

3. Purpose of the data processing

The temporary storage of the IP address by the system is necessary to enable the website’s delivery to the user's computer. For this purpose, the user's IP address must remain stored for the duration of the session.

The data is processed for statistical purposes.

4.Storage period

The data is deleted as soon as it is no longer required to achieve the purpose for which it was collected.
