The illustration shows two everyday situations in which privacy decisions are not made alone:
At the top, data sharing on social media is depicted – a person posts something online that also affects others.
At the bottom, you see a smart speaker in a shared household – the device collects data that concerns several people.
Both examples illustrate opportunities and risks for informational self-determination when privacy decisions are influenced or made on behalf of others.

The BMBF-funded research project SoPrivAdo is investigating how different social situations affect the privacy decisions of adolescents. The goal is to support them in retaining control over their personal data and exercising their right to informational self-determination even under social influences in technologies of collective use.

The three inner circles represent key project components: Target group-oriented educational materials embedded in a comprehensive learning concept. Mixed-method research including focus groups, experiments, and vignette-based surveys.
A user-centered serious game that motivates playfully and conveys the content interactively.

Mixed method research

Science communication

... enables a clear presentation of the research results and conveys them in an interactive exhibition on the subject of data protection and privacy.

Then simply send us a short e-mail. We hope to be able to share our results with all interested parties shortly.

Our focus groups have been completed!

Fourteen adolescents and young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 participated in our focus groups. We gained exciting insights into the privacy decisions of our target group. Initial results will be published at the end of the year in our white paper on the preliminary research for the project.
